Car count at speed scene race

Does anyone know how many cars were in competition in each class at speed scene race?

There were 177 entries for the Speed Scene Live Nationals. I don't have the break down. And then 158 on Sunday. We had 52 in pro which paid quarters and we were 1 short in super pro but the track decided to pay out quarters to them as well as a thank you for supporting SRCA.

scott gordine won both classes saturday. i heard he split in both. sunday john mauguns won pro, and kyle lane and i split in the finals. we decided not to run. mason faucett won jrs, and im not sure on the rest.

Jaron, I think what Eric is leaning towards is that KID uses a Accutime timing system and SRCA, Topeka, Bandimere, etc. use a 2012 Compulink system. Both systems are good in their own respects. The major difference that is very noticeable is the perimeters in which the tree comes downs. I think I was told KID has their tree set on 7 seconds, Compulink is a random count, example would be 2-9, or 3-7, etc. what ever NHRA has said it should be. Those perimeter numbers are spinning like a slot machine and when the tree is activated it stops on the number and that is then the countdown time. Difference being a racer can't count the tree or get used to the tree. Look at the bottom of your time slips, if it says "Autostart is on" you know Compulink is working, if it says "starter override" then there could possibly be a issue.

there were a couple of times it seemed like it took the tree FOREVER to come down. i flinched in tt and was .103 red. during eliminations sunday (tree took what seemed forever) i almost flinched, but the guy i raced must have, because he was .096 red. i got used to it ;D. i wasnt complaining, i just wanted to know why. i ran into an issue at topeka once. the starter didnt push autostart until both cars were totally staged. this seemed similar, so i thought i would inquire.

I am a little confused by the 2-9 or 3-7 second setting. Is this the countdown once both cars are staged? I also agree the tree is slower to activate at times but I know it isn't 7 or 9 seconds (on the long side of the random selection). Can you clarify just a little more please. Thanks

Eric, thats exactly what happened. It did seem like the tree took forever, i just got a litte anxious and flinched. I was doing pretty good up to that point.

OK, lets talk about our timing system. Number 1 it is mandated from NHRA that we run Compulink as a track that can hold a Division or National event, same as Pomona, Englishtown, Las Vegas or so on. Tracks that can only hold a National Open can have Accutime or a track that can only hold anything but above mentioned can have a flagman if so desired. The mandate we are also under is Bob Brockmeyer the inventor and designer of this system MUST certify, update, inspect and tune the system every two years and we are to maintain to his guidelines between that span of time. He was here the week of the Division race 2012 at the tune of $5,000.00 to perform this task. He updated our system to 2012 software and if you look on your time slips it is stated so, that is why it shows 1000 foot mph as we do not have, but they will probably make us put in later. Parameters were changed for this per NHRA.
First lets do not compare an Apple to a Orange. Compulink has the capability of random tree drop and also it retains and prints out when the first car pre stages the random number that it added to the base number of which falls between 1.7 to 1.83 of a second that is a NHRA time line picked by the individual track as it's base, ours is 1.1 so the two added up is 1.7. Bob told me this was requested from NHRA so a competitor could not guess the tree drop by counting as you can with Accutime. It also will print out how long it took your competitor to stage his car and if the Starter triggered the tree when both cars were pre staged or if he was late and triggered the tree after one or both cars were staged. Accutime can do none of the above mentioned. Should the Starter trigger the tree late that time will be factored into the mix also.
I called Bob this evening and told him what I heard about the tree drop. What he told me to do was to fax him the power sheets or run printout from the individuals in question and if there is a problem we will let you know and correct this problem. We spent a couple of hours with him going over our parameters that are set in our system and this it what they are in all of our Summit classes, I will not tell you what they are in the Lucas Series because that is not what is in question and they are all set different in those categories.
Pre staged minimum is 0.6 seconds or you must be in that beam for that amount of time, first car in for 0.6 seconds the random number is then picked and added to default time that is default by our computer which is 1.1 with the max drop of 1.83 seconds. So if your competitor waits almost to the 10 second time out that is also our default to stage you could stare at the tree for almost 11.83 seconds before it comes down and that is still in the parameter range.
Eric, Chris, Mike and Shane your power run sheets from all test and tunes, time trials and both days of eliminations have been sent to Brockmeyer to look at to see if we do have a problem. From all the runs I looked out concerning you guys the random number fell between 0.00 to 0.13 so it went from 1.7 to 1.83 all during the two days. Eric you had in the third round of eliminations on Sunday the starter flipped the switch late and held you both past the time. That was the only one I found concerning you guys for the starter being late. When Bob calls me with his findings I will put on this form every run you guys made with default time, base time, time for second car to stage and what the starter did. Thank you for concerns that you have and we are looking into it.

For the individuals that used disrespectful language towards our volunteer crew on this matter please note this will be your only warning and should it happen again you will be asked to leave.

i didnt want to sound like i was complaining. i just wanted someone to tell me some info. i adapted to the slower tree, i got over it. again great job to all involved, weather sucked, but the track surface was perfect!

Here is the reply from Bob Brockmeyer concerning your questions about the tree. We have retained the run logs and I will post them this evening for all to see. Bob has told me if this does not answer your question, he has authorized me to give out his cell number to anyone who request it. Please pm me if you would like his number.

In all cases of the circled (complaining) drivers, the random variance was on the 'long' side, .11 for M574 and .12 for P587. Since the Starter was Late on the 578M run, we do not know how late he was. This time is added to the normal Autostart cycle, so could have been much longer than normal if the starter was distracted, etc. The Time to second car staging will not reset if (1), single run, (2), Starter LATE , (3), Deep Stage. This timer wants to see three lights ON (2 Pre-Stages and One Stage) to Reset the timer.


With your settings in CE, the Tree delay will be in the 1.7 - 1.83 second range after the second car has Staged. This is the normal setting that most tracks use, ( + or - .1), and is the same as racers will see at Bracket Finals.


Compulink was the creator of AUTOSTART, as well as StageLOK, and CROSSTALK. We have literally hundreds of thousands of runs logged on the Autostart with 100% reliability. NHRA uses Autostart on every category at a National Event, including Top Fuel and Funny Car, Pro Stock, and all sportsman classes. Unless there is an operator error, this System just simply works. While other timing systems do not have the technical ability to add a random component to the Autostart cycle, the Compulink System does have this ability in order to provide a level playing field for all competitors. Drivers can learn and actually guess the Tree if a random component is not added to each cycle. You can see from your Log Sheets that the random # actually ran the full 0.00 to 0.13 range in one session of Super pro competition.


We certainly hope the racers questioning will be satisfied with the data provided.
